Betty McClellan Hancock - LHS Class of 1952

Betty I. Hancock, 77 of Leavenworth passed away March 8th, 2012 at her residence after a lengthy battle with cancer surrounded by her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. To have her memory in our hearts means that she will always be with us.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 12th, 2012, at Belden Larkin Funeral Home with Rev. Jack Tarpey officiating.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 11, 2012, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m., with the family present 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. all at the funeral home.
Internment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Her family and friends would like to invite you to the VFW after the internment for food and exchanging memories with Betty's family and friends.
Betty was born March 24th, 1934, in Tipton, Mo., the daughter of James and Marie (Johnson) McClellan. Betty attended Leavenworth Senior High School.
She married Ralph P. Hancock, Sr. on July 3rd, 1951, in Leavenworth, Kan. She worked for approximately 20 years at Russell's Pharmacy.
Betty was very active and dedicated to the Auxillary of the VFW. She was a member of Post 56 VFW Auxillary and served as President from 1973-1974. She was the District President of the VFW Auxillary from 1987-1988. You could find Betty many evenings calling Bingo at the VFW. If she wasn't calling Bingo then she was playing it. She did a lot of charity events through the VFW with the Veterans at the VA center in Leavenworth. She loved her grandchildren, family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of almost 61 years, one son, Ralph P. Hancock, Jr. and his wife Barbara of Lansing, Kan, two daughters; Susie Morehead and her husband Bill, and Linda Hancock and her husband Rhue Thomas all of Leavenworth, seven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren, and one brother, Les Freeman of Tx.
She was preceded in death by one brother Ralph Freeman.
Memorials in her name be directed to Hospice Partners of Kansas.
