Linda Schroeder

Linda Lucille Pigg Schroeder passed away September 24, 2013 in the comfort of her own home. Her valiant fight for life against cancer lost but a victory won in joining her Lord and Savior who she always knew was in charge.
Linda was born June 24,1942 in Independence, Mo. and was the second child of Dale and Elizabeth Pigg. She grew up in Shawnee Mission, Kan., where she attended school graduating from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1960. Linda's parents both taught school and in the summers, worked as counselors at Cheley Camps in Estes Park, Colo. Cheley Camps were forever a part of her life, spending every summer there either as a child helping her mother, as a camper and later a counselor. She never lost her love of Cheley Camps or the Colorado Mountains.
Linda attended Kansas State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education in 1963. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, The Arts and Science Council, the 1961 Military Ball Queen and the 1962 Sweetheart of Sigma Chi. It was at a Pi Phi-Sigma Chi event where she and Jim caught each other's eye. Jim commented to a fraternity brother that he thought Linda was nice and was going to ask her out. The fraternity brother beat him to the phone and as a result they both turned up at a house party with other dates but spent the evening ruining the time for the other two. After that she and Jim were together for the next 52 years. They were married in 1964 at The Old Mission Methodist Church in Fairway, Kan.
Linda and Jim lived in Muncie, In. where Jim was an Engineer for Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Linda began her life long career as a teacher. Her first year teaching in Muncie she had the Westinghouse plant manager's son as a student, talk about pressure! While in Muncie she obtained a Masters Degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University. In 1968 they relocated to Leavenworth where Jim joined his father with The Great Western Manufacturing Company and they began their family. Linda's teaching career went on hold until the children were well on their way. She resumed working part time for The Saint Mary GED program. Her neighbor and dear friend, Joan Dodge introduced her to Bible Study Fellowship and her life took a whole new focus. Within one year she became a group leader and remained as a leader for 25 years. Many summers she conducted a Bible Study in her home, personally writing the study. This summer, despite her failing health, she hosted her final study. Linda was a certified scuba diver logging over 100 dives mostly in Grand Cayman. If she couldn't be in Colorado then it was at their second home at The Lake of The Ozarks. Her morning wave runner rides with Jim were as enjoyable as horseback riding in the mountains.
Linda was a member of PEG chapter EO, The Whittier Club, KSU Alumni Association and served on The Cushing Hospital Foundation board, The John A Cheley Foundation board and was a director of Mount Muncie Cemetery. She was a member of The First Presbyterian Church and headed their annual Angel Tree program.
Linda is survived by her husband, Jim Schroeder (LHS Class of 1958), her son, David (Carla) Schroeder of Leavenworth and their sons, Dawson and Carson, her daughter, Debra (Tim) Niemann of St Louis, Mo., and their sons Spencer, Campbell, Elliot and Oliver, her brother, Larry Randall (Orlano) of Dallas, Texas. Her parents preceded her in death.
