John L. Leavitt, 80, of Leavenworth, Kan, passed away March 5, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born March 14, 1935 in Leavenworth, KS. He attended school at St. Paul Lutheran and the local public schools.
After serving in the U.S. Navy for 4 years John began his career working at Fort Leavenworth in the Army Field Printing Plant. He retired from printing in 1990. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the NARFE, the Eagles and a lifetime member of the VFW. He also served as secretary for the Frontier Credit Union for 25 years.
He did volunteer work at the VA, St. Luke’s Hospital and the Heritage House in Leavenworth. Anything he was asked to help with, he would find time to do.
John is survived by his wife Patricia Moore whom he married in 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. He is also survived by his two sons, John (wife: Connie) and Brian (partner: Ed), two grandsons: John Matthew and Christopher, and one grand-daughter Kathryn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Leavenworth. The funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 10:00 am with burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
Memorials are designated for Blessed Trinity Hospice and the Music Ministry of Trinity Lutheran Church.
