Charles Hulsey - IMAC Class of 1956

Charles John Hulsey, 78, of Overland Park, KS passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation in Olathe, KS.
He was born in Emmett, Idaho to Thelma Schaefer Hulsey. Charles moved to Horton KS and attended elementary school and later moved to Leavenworth KS and graduated from Immaculata High School in 1956. 
After serving four years with the United States Army, Charles attended Barber school in Tulsa Oklahoma. He owned Hulsey's Barber Shop in Leavenworth KS. 
He attended the Aeronautical Academy in Oklahoma City, OK and was an Air Traffic Controller and Supervisor at the Kansas City EnRoute Air Traffic Control Center in Olathe, KS for 33 years. He also owned Hulsey's Liquor Store in Leavenworth KS for 27 years. 
Charles leaves to cherish his memories his beloved and devoted wife JoAnne (Goodenow Stearns); son Mark and his wife Nancy, of Chicago, Illinois; son Matthew Hulsey; stepson's Donald Stearns and wife Jennifer of Overland Park, KS and Robert Stearns of Overland Park, KS; 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Charles had a passion for animals. He leaves his beloved pets Bailey, Dolly, Frankie, Louie and JJ.
The Lake of the Ozarks provided a perfect place for him to entertain, BBQ and enjoy his many boats. Charles had a love of aviation and was an instrument rated pilot and a flight instructor. He enjoyed flying others in his Cessna 210 aircraft. He liked playing pool and sharing his sense of humor with others. His jokes and stories will live on for many years.
Above all, Charles was a kind man, had a great sense of humor and was an upstanding man of integrity. His handshake was his seal of commitment.
Services will be held at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 14275 Blackbob, Olathe KS on Saturday April 9, 2016. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30, with funeral service at 10:30. Burial to follow at Corinth Cemetery 3301 W. 83rd Prairie Village, KS

Charles' family would like to thank the staff of Nottingham Health and Rehabilitation Center and Encompass Home Health Care and Hospice for their loving care and kindness while caring for Charles.
