Lloyd Banks - LHS Class of 1950

Lloyd Leon Banks passed away from natural causes at the Twin Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Lansing, KS on September 30, 2017 at the age of 86. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side.
Lloyd was born the son of Alfred O. (Pete) and Viola N. Banks in Leavenworth on March10, 1931. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vera Lee (McGinnis) Banks, two sisters Violet June Smith of Copemish, MI and Flora May Magee of Kickapoo, KS, and his favorite uncle Andrew T. (Tony) Banks of Leavenworth.
He is survived by two sons, Robert J. Banks of Kansas City, David A Banks of Gilbert, AZ, and his wife Peggy Banks, two daughters, Carol A. Banks of Shawnee, KS and Karin Banks Thomas of Winter Park, FL and her husband, retired Lieutenant Colonel Evert S. Thomas III, a brother Herbert L. Banks of Sun City, AZ, one grandson, Ryan D. Banks of Leavenworth, his wife Jenny L. Mitchell of Leavenworth, step grandson Evert S. Thomas IV, step granddaughter Sara Hollon Thomas of Orlando, FL, four great grandchildren all of Leavenworth, Jacob D. Calloway, Bailee A. Banks, Cloyee R. Banks, Ryder D. Banks, step great grand daughter Austin R. Ellis, step great grandsons Evert S. Thomas V of Winter Park and Evan Augenblick of Orlando, FL, five nephews and four nieces.
Lloyd graduated from Leavenworth High School and served 18 years in the U.S. Navy Reserve. His career started operating the printing presses at Fort Leavenworth and bartending at the Elks Club. After retiring from Civil Service in 1963, he changed careers to start selling real estate. After a short time, he partnered with his friend Jean Schanze and opened the Schanze and Banks real estate and insurance agency where he sold residential and commercial real estate for more than 40 years. After selling the agency, he continued to stay active in real estate until 2013.
In addition to being a member of the National Association of Realtors, he also served as President of the Leavenworth Board of Realtors. He was a member of the Leavenworth Chamber Commerce, Elks Club, Eagles Club, Lions Club, and Leavenworth Country Club. He also served as an expert witness in imminent domain cases.
Lloyd believed in living life to its fullest extent. He provided generously for his family, and was very active in the community. He enjoyed travelling around the world, watching professional and college sports, hunting birds, and playing cards with good friends for many years. He liked to talk with everyone and made many friends doing so.
Visitation is 5pm-8pm October 4th, 2017 at the Belden-Larkin Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10:30 am, Oct 5th at the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens cemetery in Leavenworth KS.

Together ♥♥♥ Forever

Vera Lee Banks, 67, of Leavenworth, passed away peacefully Saturday, May 20, 2006 at her home. She was born the daughter of Lloyd C. and Alberta (Beck) McGinnis on Friday, February 24, 1939 in Peoria, IL. She moved to a dairy farm in Valley Falls, KS as a girl, and graduated from High School there. 
Vera graduated from Kansas State University before moving to Leavenworth, where she was crowned the first Miss Leavenworth in 1963. Among her fondest memories was the trip she was awarded from the contest to Wagga Wagga, Australia. 
In 1963, she opened a dress shop in Leavenworth. In the later '60s, she moved to Kansas City and worked as a secretary at Channels 4 and 5. Later, she moved to Platte City, Mo., where she owned a convenience store. She then returned to Leavenworth.
Vera loved cooking and traveling with her husband, Lloyd. She especially loved her home and the country atmosphere it provided. 
Vera is survived by her loving husband of 17 years; step-children, Bob Banks and Carol Banks, both of Leavenworth, Karin Thomas of Orlando, FL, and David Banks of Phoenix, AZ; cousins, Bernadine Vandenbos, Lee Vandenbos, Joy Ferrell, Vicki Buening, Linda Tombari, Scott Ferrell, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and other extended family and friends. 
She was preceded in death by her parents. 
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Barnett-Larkin-Brown Funeral Home, 707 S. 6th St., Leavenworth, (913) 682-2820. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
