Stanley E. Inkman, 77, of Leavenworth, died Sunday, December 2, 2007, at Saint John Hospital. He was born January 28, 1930, in Leavenworth the son of Henry and Anna (Pranke) Inkman.
He graduated from Immaculata High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He received the Purple Heart in July of 1950. On September 18, 1954, he married Greta Smith (LHS Class of 1950) at St. Joseph Church in Leavenworth. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his children, Darren (Toni) Inkman of Naperville, Ill., and Kimberly (Rodney) Hayes of Leavenworth; his grandchildren, Nicholas Inkman, Tyler Hayes, Andrew Inkman and Tabitha Hayes; two brothers, Albert Inkman and David (Gloria) Inkman; a sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Gary Poss of Wichita, Kan.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Henry Inkman and Leonard Inkman; and a sister Margaret Kruse.
For 22 years he owned and operated Inkman IGA Food Center at 7th and Pottawatomie Street in Leavenworth. He was a member of the Elks, Lions, Eagles and American Legion.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 am Thursday, December 6, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, with Rev. Phillip Winkelbauer as celebrant. Burial with military honors will follow at Mount Muncie Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Leavenworth CYO or Leavenworth Special Education.
