Charles William "Bill" Simpson, 83, of Leavenworth, died Monday, April 4, 2011, at St. John Hospital. He was born July 18, 1927, in Leavenworth, the son of Theodore and Nellie Frances (McMillen) Simpson.
On Sept. 18, 1949, he married Delores Shockey (LHS Class of 1949) at St. Paul Episcopal Church in Leavenworth. She survives at the home.
He is also survived by his children, Debbie R. Nelson of Hammond, La. and Daniel (Cheryl Hasche) Simpson of Leavenworth; grandchildren, Michael Simpson, Rebecca Nelson, Steven Nelson and Jenny Simpson; great-grandchildren, Ava and Skye Simpson, Lillian Simpson and Chandler Melton; brothers, Tony (Bonnie) Simpson and Allan (Pat) Simpson.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard Simpson; sister, Ilene Gillespie (LHS Class of 1954).
Bill graduated from Leavenworth High School and served in the U.S. Navy. After discharge he returned to Leavenworth where he owned and operated Trader Bill's Used Cars. In the mid-1960s he went to work at Collard Chevrolet and worked there until he retired. Bill enjoyed selling cars and the many friends he made.
He had been a member of the Elk's, Eagles, VFW and the American Legion. Bill was an avid bowler and loved to watch the Royal's he also coached baseball for eight years.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, 2011, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, April 8, 2011, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery.
