Jane Lemke, 79, Leavenworth, died, Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at her home. She was born Oct. 9, 1938, in Leavenworth, Kansas, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Ober) Mayne.
She graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1956.
In Sept. of 1989, Jane married Walter Lemke in Leavenworth, Kansas. He survives at the home. She is also survived by six sons, Brian K. Hannigan, Bruce K. Hannigan, Brett K. Hannigan, John Lemke, all of Leavenworth, Kansas, Edward Evenson, Pheonix, Arizona and Keith Lemke, Burlington, Kansas; three daughters, Diane R. Hannigan, Topeka, Kansas, Sharon Strein and Serphina “Kitty” Evenson, both of Leavenworth, Kansas; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her lifelong friend and grade school pal of almost 69 years, Joan Riddle, Epping, Victoria, Australia.
Jane was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Bart Kevin Hannigan.
She lived in a community that she loved and enjoyed. Jane volunteered many hours of services to her community. She retired from the Veterans Administration Center at Leavenworth after 38 years of service. She also devoted 20 years to the Veterans Day Parade in Leavenworth as the Secretary and Treasurer.
Jane was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 55. She had the chance to serve as Auxiliary President.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2018, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Kansas State School for the Blind.
